GARDEN STORM

10 November, 2013

Having dreamed about rocking grey locks for so long I finally took the dive and got my super talented friend Kat to make it happen! I love it sooo much, I think I'll keep it forever. And you know how EVERYTHING goes with grey - all of sudden I can wear anything from my closet and it looks good, even my "home clothes" haha!

CACAO NUT BALLS

27 October, 2013

For a while now I've been wanting to give the raw diet thing a go. All the recipes look so damn delicious and I really want to improve my eating habits. Since everywhere I turn, I keep seeing pictures of Power Balls / Bliss Balls / Cacao Balls / whatever else you call them balls, I decided this would be my first attempt. They look amazing and sound even yummier than the unhealthy chocolate truffle sweet tooth kind. I read a whole bunch of recipes first and it sounded like pretty much anything goes, so I went to the store and came back with a whole bunch of stuff. Here's what my recipe included:
  • Mixed raw nuts (Almonds, Cashews, Pistachios, Walnuts)
  • Seeds (Sunflower seeds, Chia seeds, Ground linseed (flaxseed))
  • Desiccated coconut
  • Pitted whole dates
  • Cacao powder
  • Ground Cinamon
  • Coconut oil
  • 100% Nautral maple syrup
  • Pure vanilla extract
I just put all the dry ingredients (except coconut and chia) in the blender first, and then putting that aside I put the dates and some water through the blender, soaked the chia seeds in water for a few minutes, then with my hands I mixed everything all together, then rolled the balls over the coconut, and refrigerated for an hour before eating. It only took like 10 minutes! I thought these would be really expensive to make but actually when you buy the nuts/seeds from one of those fill-the-bag-yourself sections, it's really quite cheap. I spent just under $8 for all of mine and made about 20 balls.

HOUSE DECORATING

20 October, 2013

I've been spending hours upon hours browsing through etsy, pinterest, trademe, and society 6 for house furnishings. It's not like I can even afford to buy anything so actually it's completely pointless, but for some reason I just cant stop. I'm really digging the plants on the wall look, a simple colour palette, and as per usual my love for slightly creepy artwork and sculptures.

LAUNCH

14 October, 2013

So I finally did it! Over the weekend I launched an online store for some jewelry I've been hand-making and wearing for a whole year now. I always seem to start projects and then get distracted by a new idea so I'm excited that I finally did it! And now that it's up, I'm feeling more motivated to spend my spare time creating new pieces. I've even secured a spot at the La Gonda Market coming up in a month's time which is something I'm really looking forward to doing.

If you've got a good eye, you might have noticed that I've been wearing my pieces in a few of my past outfit posts. Check out my online store and "like" Loser Year on facebook to keep up with new designs as I make them!

LOOKBOOK: LAZY OAF | WINTER 13

07 October, 2013

In case anybody has actually noticed, I haven't been blogging of late due to a few reasons: I moved house, set up yet another side business, and have been slack on the gym front leaving me feeling bloated and tired. To help motivate me, I turned to my 1,246 post deep bloglovin feed for some good ol' style inspiration, and here is what I found - Lazy Oaf never fails to get me in the mood!

VENUS IN FLEURS

25 August, 2013

GREY FAUX LEATHER JACKET, BAUHAUS
FIT AND FLARE FLORAL DRESS, THE EDITORS MARKET
WHITE SANDALS, EBAY
EYEBALL NECKLACE, SICK SAD WORLD

I officially have an energy drink addiction. I usually drink an energy drink, or a least a strong coffee, every week day but on the weekends when I don't, I get massively intense migrains that only go away if have a red bull. It's so annoying because by the time I have the migrain its painful enough that I cant be bothered going anywhere to buy a can and so then I end up not doing anything productive all day and so that's why I haven't blogged for a couple of weeks!

PYJAMA FUTURE PSYCHO SALMON SHIRT, STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB
PANTS, STOLEN GIRLFRIENDS CLUB
BONE BRACELET, LOSER YEAR

The past week has been insanely intense - busy as workload and to make it a million times harder I caught a nasty cold which also meant that I couldn't go to the REMIX Magazine party. Damn, I've always wanted to go to a thing that gives you a goodie bag! lol. Luckily I got over it in time for Stolen Girlfriends Club's sample sale which only happens twice a year!! These pants I'm wearing here are amazing, the construction and fit on them is perfection, the only is thing is when I went to take them off after taking these photo's, the vinyl part teared where it's stitched on so I only got like 30minutes out of them! I'm hoping they'll replace them or fix them or something but since it was a sample sale, even though it's not a sample piece - it's from their previous collection, maybe they won't care. If that's the case I'm going to be soooooo sad! Fingers crossed...

WRONG IMPRESSIONS

28 July, 2013

KNIT JUMPER, ROLLA'S
MARILYN SKINNY WALLPAPER, NEUW DENIM
LION CHAIN NECKLACE, EBAY
HEELS, KOOKAI

Yikes, I don't know how I feel about this outfit. I look like a respectable daughter in law on the cusp of marrying and starting a family, waiting for the scones to finish baking to eat with the in-laws. Ew. I was 'experimenting'. Usually I pair the knit and these jeans with black ankle boots and black accessories to give it some edge. Both are super comfortable by the way. And I love how these jeans are soft and high waisted which means they can double as 'eating' pants yet look great at the same time.

Anyway, I've been slow at blogging lately because I have a bunch of outfits in mind that I feel are missing a final touch so waiting to source those! In other news, I made a cat tree this week and I went to a zine festival yesterday which was pretty cool. Definitely inspired to make something of my own but feel that it's something I'll never ever get around to doing.

THE PRESENT TENSE

17 July, 2013

BLAZER, THRIFT STORE
BLOUSE, THRIFT STORE
LION CHAIN NECKLACE, EBAY
TARTAN "KNOCKOUT PANTS", HUFFER

So this is a typical "work" outfit for me. Lately I've been dressing less grungy to work since I'm trying to make a good impression to gain more responsibility. How 'mature' of me! I looove these tartan pants by NZ brand, Huffer. I think they're supposed to be slightly cropped but because I'm short they fit me perfectly, no more bunched up leg bottoms woop! They have little brass zips on the sides at the bottom of each leg which makes them look super smart and the quality of this material is really awesome, these babies are going to last!

Right now I'm in Sydney to meet some clients and take over a new content management system. I had to wake up at 4am to catch the plane and it's now 11.30pm - sooo knackered, so that's it from me today!

STAX BLAZER, THRIFT STORE
GRIM REAPER TIE DYE TEE, DEATH/TRAITORS BY ALEXANDER HEIR
VEGAN CROC SHORTS, BAD VIBES // TUNNEL VISION
BONE BRACELET, LOSER YEAR

So I've been thinking about blogs and I've realized that I feel disappointed when bloggers only write about what they're wearing or fashion related topics. What I personally want to know is who they are, what they do for a living, their hobbies and interests (other than blogging), and just general happenings in their life. So that's what I'm going to do from now :)

The low down: I live in Auckland, New Zealand, and spend my week days at an agency working as a digital content manager which involves developing and maintaining the front end of websites for a bunch of clients across Australasia. I refuse to divulge my age - it's an issue that I'm currently trying to learn to cope with. I'm half Thai and half NZ European. Obsessed with cats. Ridiculously indecisive. Spend ALL my free time on the internet collecting inspiration for the many creative "projects" I want to take on, which I'll write about sometimes here. So yeah, I guess that's enough about me for today!

MURMURS OF THE DAWN

09 July, 2013

UTILITY COAT, RELIGION
INSOMNIAC KINT JUMPER, EVIL TWIN
VELVET LEGGINGS
RAZE PLATFORM BOOTS, Y.R.U

This utility jacket by UK brand Religion is one of my all time favourite purchases. It looks like it's been left in a puddle on this gravel driveway and then hung out to dry for 2 months resulting in some seriously perfect wear and fade. It's light enough that I can wear it comfortably indoors, and has a bunch of pockets so I don't have to use a handbag - score! Once again, I forgot to take photos of the back, but I wear it all the time so I'll do another look with it soon. The back is pretty damn awesome too, it has this mental asylum aesthetic going on. Just wait and see! Also, I love the Australian brand Evil Twin. This knit jumper is soooo soft. I wish I had more of their stuff, sigh. At the moment I'm dying over their latest collection "No Guts No Glory". I reeeeeeally want the Under Attack Anorak and the Freeer Burn Shorts but I'm on this shopping ban because I was getting out of control. Probably doesn't help that I started a style blog!

COMA WHITE

05 July, 2013

NO F#@%'s GIVEN COLLAR NECKLACE, SICK SAD WORLD NZ
DEAD BEATS SLOB T-SHIRT, LAZY OAF
WHITE MESH TIGHTS, MADAME HAWKE (S/S '10)
VIRGO X WASTELAND TALL STARS, WASTELAND

Usually I'd pair this dead beats shirt with some dark skinny jeans or my spike leggings but I felt like stepping outside of my 'comfort zone'. I got these white mesh tights in late '09 at a Madame Hawke (brand doesn't exist anymore) sample sale but have never worn them before. I really love them but haven't really known what to wear them with. But looking at these shots, I think all that's missing is some baggy denim shorts!

TO THE DREGS

02 July, 2013

RAGLAN SHIRT, ASOS
TARTAN DUNGAREES, HUFFER
VIRGO X WASTELAND TALL STARS, WASTELAND

This spot reminded me of my childhood days kickin it with my dad in building sites and demolition yards. I would be bored out of my mind but now when looking back those are some of my favourite memories.

These plaid overalls by Huffer are freaking awesome. I feel like I didn't do them justice, especially since I forgot to get photos of the back - d'oh! The colour way of these is beyond perfect - rich olive green, deep forest green, navy and a touch of deep red. I couldn't help but get the matching trousers too haha. I'll be shooting them soon :) I'm loving Huffer this season, their Fall/Winter collection is so cool and I really like their New Zealand wilderness theme lookbook too. I just wish their outerwear wasn't so expensive, I'd be all over those jackets if I could!
